Review on Pan Chancho Bakery & Cafe

Hello everyone, today I will be giving you a review on the Pan Chancho Bakery & Cafe!

Pan Chancho is a small bakery/cafe in downtown Kingston, Ontario.  They sell scones, bread, buns, desserts, etc.  They also have special breakfast, lunch, and dinner meals!

IMG_6896.JPGHere is a photo of some of their bread.

They have a small seating area inside and a large outdoor seating area as well.  You can sit down and order a meal or you can take a snack for the road!

Pan Chancho also has many dessert options, such as cake, mousses, macaroons, etc.

Here is a photo of just a few of their delicious treatsIMG_6898.JPG

Their food is very filling and delicious!  It only took 1 bun to fill me up, this is because their European baking style.  They use more fats that most bakeries in North America.  I personally prefer more fats in baking because when there are more fats in food it makes it more filling.  Have you ever noticed that when you get buns from the grocery store you can just keep eating them? That is because the normal buns form the store don’t have a lot of fats in them, however as soon as you finish a bun at the Pan Chancho you will be full after the first bun!

Overall I love this bakery and rate it a 9/10!  I would defiantly go there if I where every in Kingston again!

Review On “The Bread And Bretzel Basket”

Hey Everyone!  Today I am doing a review on The Bread And Bretzel Basket.

The Bread And Bretzel Basket is a bakery\cafe, they have pretzels, cookies, bread, cakes, chocolate, etc.  They are located on 255 Toll Gate Boulevard Waterloo, ON N2L 4M3 Canada.

The Bread And Bretzle Basket was originally a family run bakery, but in the past few years they have started to hire other people.

I love this bakery, even though it isn’t as fancy as Sorelle And Co.

In the summer I bike here if I want a tasty snack! If you can’t tell already, this is one of my favourite bakeries!

The Bread And Bretzle Basket also has many tasty chocolates and cakes!  Not to mention their bread (it’s one of my favourite places to get bread from)

Here is picture of some of the types of desserts they sell.

I personally think The Bread And Bretzel Basket is WAY better than Sorel and Co.  because they use natural ingredients and the stuff isn’t as expensive.

There is also a nice sitting area for anyone who would like to get soup or a sandwich (they also sell things like that) for lunch and want to stay and sit down to eat!

I rate this bakery 7/10! I very highly recommend the Bread And Bretzle Basket for anyone wanting to go out to a nice casual bakery\cafe!

Things to Stick to When You Start Baking

Hello everyone, today I am going to give you a few guidelines that you might find useful when you first start baking.

First I suggest following the recipe exactly.  Trust me, if you don’t you will probably end up with something too lumpy, runny, salty, sweet, thick, etc.  And we all know nobody wants to eat something that doesn’t taste good.

Another suggestion is to bake easy things such as cookies, muffins, banana bread, etc. These yummy treats are not only easy to make, they are also fun to make!  If you have siblings, I’m sure that they will gobble up what you baked before you know it! 😉

Try to bake with someone who knows how to bake. I learned how to bake by apprenticing with my mom, my grandmas, my older sister, and my older brother (who is now more interested in tinkering with his engines).  Anyway, it is always good to bake with someone who has more experience because you can always learn something new!

Bake as much as you can!  Practice makes perfect, so just keep trying!  You will get better eventually!  When I first started out, almost none of my cookies or cakes looked or tasted like I wanted them to.  But I kept practicing and now I can make all sorts of things and most of the time they taste great (if I do say so myself)!

Thanks so much for checking out my blog!  Keep baking! 😉

Perfect Cream Cheese Frosting

Hello everyone, today I am going to be giving you a recipe for cream cheese frosting that tastes amazing with pumpkin and spice cakes!

1/2 cup unsalted butter

1 8oz package of cream cheese

1 teaspoon vanilla

In your mixing bowl, beat softened butter and cream cheese with electric mixer on a medium speed for about 2 or 3 minutes or until nice and creamy.   Be sure to stop and scrape the sides of the bowl.

Stir in vanilla and powdered sugar; mix until thick and spreads easily.

Ice your cake or cupcakes to look beautiful.

Review On Babycakes Deep Fryer

I just got a brand new deep fryer made by Babycakes.  So far I have made regular donuts, jelly filled donuts, and rosette cookies.

The deep fryer comes with an instruction manual with recipes, a spoon with holes in it to get the stuff out of the hot oil, a bottle for putting batter in, and a whole bunch of molds for rosette cookies.

Here is a picture of the deep fryer (from the Babycakes website).iu.jpeg

As you can see the deep fryer is pretty small so you can only fry 1 or 2 things at a time.  This means that if you want to deep-fry a lot of treats it might take a longer time than if you had a big deep fryer.

This deep fryer is great because it will keep the oil at the right temperature, so you don’t need to worry about oil fires as much as you do when using a pan or pot to deep-fry.  If there is a grease fire do NOT dump water on it because oil is lighter that water, so the flaming oil will rise and spill everywhere.  Instead, cover the fire with a pot lid so that it runs out of oxygen and can’t spread.

All together I think that this is a great deep fryer and I highly recommend buying it!

Just remember, keep on practicing because nobody gets it perfect first try!

A HandFull Of Cakes

Hello everyone!  Today I am going to be showing you some cakes that my siblings, cousins, grandma, friends and I have made throughout the years.

Her is a chocolate ganache cake that I made!  It is rainbow on the inside with sprinkles! Screen Shot 2019-11-19 at 1.20.08 PM

Let’s start the party with a dangerously delicious LION cake. I didn’t make this one on my own; it was actually my younger brother’s birthday cake.  My grandma (she is amazing at baking and decorating cakes) made the cake, but we all did a little bit of work to decorate it.IMG_4684.JPG

How about getting a little fancy with a purple mirror cake? I made this beautiful mirror cake by myself and I think it turned out pretty well.DSC_0424.jpg

What do you guys think about one little piggy? Here is a pig cake made by my cousin Chloe (she is really good at cake decorating to) and my grandma.IMG_0818

Lets have some fun with a little lamb! I decorated this cake by myself and I really like it!IMG_4741.JPG

Let’s try not to get wet as we checkout this beautiful waterfall cake made by my sister Anna, my cousin Chloe, our friend Katarina, and I.IMG_6926-1.JPG

If you guys want any tutorials on how to make these cakes just comment below to let me know.   I will also be adding more cakes to this post as I make more!

Thanks so much for checking out my blog! I hope you like these cakes!

Review On Sorelle

Yesterday my mom and I went to Toronto and planned to check out some of the city’s best bakeries!  However we only ended up going to one…

Our first stop was Sorelle and Co.’s Yorkville location.  Sorelle and Co. is a vegan bakery in Toronto (I am not vegan I just wanted to try this place out).IMG_7061.JPGHere I am just outside of Sorelle.

The shop’s decor is pretty and you feel like you’re out for high tea.  As soon as we entered  I saw tonnes of amazing yummy looking desserts.  Here are a few pictures.

Looks yummy right! Well it turns out that they also sell other vegan food too: salads, soups, sandwiches, etc.  There wasn’t a lot to choose from, so we decided on a salad for lunch and for dessert I got a chocolate donut covered in caramel (picture in top right corner) and my mom got a mousse (picture bottom right).  We decided to eat the salad first.  Something about the salad tasted a bit strange, so I moved on to my dessert.

Here is a picture taken right after we ate that salad and were eating dessert.IMG_7057

The donut’s texture was more like a cake than a donut.  The mousse tasted kind of chemically, which makes me wonder what they used instead of gelatine to get it to set.  Overall we found the desserts were just too sweet and we couldn’t finish them.

After leaving the bakery we decided to go clothes shopping before checking out the next bakery on our list.  A little while later I began to feel very sick to my stomach.  Then mom began to feel really sick too.  I think something in the salad didn’t agree with us  😦 .  We ended up not feeling well enough to check out any of the other bakeries on our list.

I was really disappointed that we didn’t feel well enough to go to anymore bakeries!

I know one thing for sure, I am not going to be a vegan and I am not going to go to Sorelle ever again!

So I rate this bakery 1 out of 10, because the salad looked like it came from the grocery store, made me feel sick, and the dessert was way to sweet.

Thank you so much for checking out my blog!  Email me or comment to tell me if you have ever been to Sorelle before and your experience.  Stay tuned for more posts and reviews!  My mom said she will take me out to more bakeries soon (as soon as she stops turning green when she looks at food).
